Wire EDM

NC-controlled wire EDM machines have become commonplace in today’s manufacturing shops. Since many wire EDM machines are operating unattended, it is critical for the manufacturing engineer to produce reliable NC data to assure the operation proceeds without difficulty. The GrayTech wire EDM programming option provides comprehensive capabilities for controlling any type of wire EDM machine with reliability.

TWO-AXIS AND MULTI-AXIS TILT WIRE PROGRAMMING

Features: Simple 2-axis or complex variable tilt-wire programming tasks are accomplished easily with the NC wire EDM functions. When programming 2-axis motion, you simply select the curve boundary you want to follow and on which side the wire should be positioned. Multiple-axis motion is accomplished by selecting top and bottom boundary curves that represent the guide boundaries for the wire. In each case, the wire positions are computed automatically to maintain tangency to the geometry boundaries selected. With a tilt-wire machine, the NC system computes the wire angle positions to produce sophisticated three-dimensional parts.

Benefits: You have control of special machining conditions that are required to produce quality parts and tooling.

LEAD IN, LEAD OUT, GLUE STOPS, AND WIRE OFFSET

Features: The special machining effects required for wire EDM production are provided by these wire EDM features. Wire starting positions and automatic wire threading through pre-drilled holes can be specified. Automatic circular entry and exit motion is generated at the beginning and end of a cutting sequence. You can specify glue or clamp stop locations where the wire motion stops short and the EDM machine is halted.

Benefits: You have control of special machining conditions that are required to produce quality parts and tooling.
