Drafting and Drawing Production

GTWorks is a leader in the industry in providing tools for a productive drafting environment. Comprehensive dimension and tolerance controls, notes, labels and special symbols enable you to produce fully annotated, production-quality engineering drawings in a fraction of the time required when using other methods. GTWorks drafting tools are provided in WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) format, all but eliminating the need for repeated printouts. A single keystroke provides access to frequently used drafting functions.

AUTOMATIC DIMENSIONING

Features: GTWorks generates horizontal, vertical, point-to-point, parallel, radius, diameter, angular and arc length dimensions, and provides baseline, chain and datum options for sequential linear dimensioning. Dimensional values are generated automatically from model geometry; they can be centered, aligned or positioned at a designated location. Dimensions can be constructed to incorporate symmetrical, plus/minus or limit tolerance values.

Benefits: Dimensioning errors are minimized and turnaround time is reduced substantially.

DIMENSION FORMATS AND DRAFTING STANDARDS

Features: GTWorks supports a broad range of international drafting standards, including ANSI, ISO and DIN. The system also provides features for tailoring drafting standards to reflect your customer's or company's practices. Dimension formats are controlled by preset parameters that can be modified at any time during or after dimension generation. A "change by example" option enables you to alter parameter settings for a selected drafting entity according to the values already established for another. Modifiable dimension parameters include the following:

  • Dimension text - Controls the angle, slant, display, size and placement of dimension text.
  • Arrowheads - Controls the arrowhead type (wedge, slash, open triangle, filled triangle, circle or rectangle), arrowhead size, arrow location and arrowhead alignment between dimensions.
  • Extension lines - Suppresses extension lines or specifies the angles of oblique extension lines.
  • Leader Lines - Controls the appearance and attachment of leader lines for radius and diameter dimensions and labels.
  • Reference dimensions - Flags a reference dimension by enclosing it is parentheses or underscoring (to indicate it's not to scale).
  • Dimension symbols - Controls the type and location of prefix and suffix dimension symbols.
  • Dual dimensioning - Displays dimensions in both English and metric units.
  • Fractional dimensioning - Displays dimensional values in either fractional or decimal format.

Benefits: Drawings are easier to interpret. Execution errors are reduced on the shop floor because dimensional formats are customized to your company standards.

TEXT NOTATION

Features: You can create and edit text as "notes" or "labels". There is no limit on the total number of lines of text. More than 20 different text fonts are provided, as well as notation for special symbols such as degrees, and counterbore and countersink. Text can be underlined, superscripted or subscripted or enclosed in brackets. Additional font styles and characters can be created with up to 9,025 characters per set. Text can be edited fully by substituting, appending, replacing or deleting characters.

Benefits: These notations clarify model details so that drawings can be interpreted more easily and executed more accurately on the shop floor.

ADDITIONAL DRAFTING NOTATION

Features: In addition to dimension and text notation, GTWorks will generate drafting notation automatically in the form of balloons, centerlines, section arrows, feature control frames, surface finish symbols and magnified insets.

  • Feature control frames - Displays tolerance symbol and value, and datum reference in a multicompartment control frame.
  • Balloons - Controls position, size and placement of single and split balloons.
  • Centerlines - Creates a common centerline through an arc, a bolt circle or two or more points.
  • Section arrows - Creates section arrows with options for single and multiple bends and arrowheads at section heads.
  • Surface finish symbols - Provides open-check, closed-check or check/circle notation for indicating finish parameters for specified surfaces. Annotation options include maximum and minimum roughness, method/treatment, sampling length, direction of lay, other measure and roughness spacing.
  • Detail magnification - Creates a magnified copy of entities within a circular region. Point, lines, arcs, splines and crosshatching can be magnified. A circular border can be generated to identify the area to be magnified.

Benefits: These notations clarify model details so that drawings can be interpreted more easily and executed more accurately on the shop floor.

SECTION CROSSHATCHING

Features: GTWorks provides 56 standard crosshatch patterns. The crosshatch function supports a main boundary with overlapping curves, multiple islands with the main boundary and automatic alignment of crosshatched area using the same material pattern. You control crosshatch properties such as pattern type, spacing and angle. Crosshatching can be regenerated easily whenever model boundaries are changed. Islands or voids can be added or deleted within a crosshatched section during or after crosshatch generation.

Benefits: Manufacturing errors are reduced because crosshatching improves a drawing's "readability." Materials are clearly recognizable by their markings.
